Adult Disciple Bible Studies are always occurring at West Lawn. Groups of individuals meet regularly at the Church and in each others’ homes to study the Word of God and learn more about how to become more like Jesus.
West Lawn supports the DISCIPLE Bible Study program, by Abington Press, which is designed to develop strong churches through the in-depth study of Scripture. Through DISCIPLE, persons are strengthened in their faith and guided into service and ministry. Four 32+ week studies courses complete the long-term DISCIPLE program. Short-term, 12-week courses are also frequently offered.
The curriculum, CHRISTIAN BELIEVER, is another program often offered at West Lawn. The goal of CHRISTIAN BELIEVER is to make available to people the substance of the Christian faith that the church has confessed as a way of connecting to God and living faithfully. This 30-week study of the classical doctrines of the Christian faith aims at presenting, explaining, and interpreting Christian doctrine as the basic teaching of the church to the end that informed believing leads to committed discipleship.
Jesus in the Gospels is another Bible Study that West Lawn regularly offers as a Christian Education course offering. This study helps individuals understand that Jesus is rooted in Judaism and the Scriptures of Judaism, and that Christianity and the New Testament are rooted in the Scriptures of Judaism – our Old Testament.
In addition to these regular studies, members of our congregation often create their own studies, focusing on a particular Book in the Bible, or biblical person. Currently, a group of individuals are studying the United Methodist faith and history, in a classed called, “This We Believe.”
